Fuel Gases With over 30 years of experience in supplying bottled gas, Broadman Limited is able to offer expert advice on all matters LPG ( liquefied petroleum gas ). We supply two types of LPG, these are Propane and Butane. The gas is stored in the cylinders as a liquid under pressure, when gas vapour is drawn off from the cylinder the pressure inside falls and the liquefied gas in the bottom of the cylinder starts to boil replacing the gas vapour being drawn off the top. The temperatures that the gas starts to boil at are for Butane 0 Deg C and for Propane -44 Deg C. This means that if temperature outside the cylinder falls below 0 Deg C the liquid in a Butane cylinder will stop boiling and the cylinder will stop producing gas ( stop working ), for Propane this happens at -44 Deg C. Therefore Propane works better at lower temperatures. Because the liquefied gas in a Propane cylinder boils more vigorously than a Butane cylinder at the same temperature a Propane cylinder of a similar size can produce more gas per hour
